OCCUPIED-AL-QUDS: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has postponed talks in Germany scheduled for Monday until next year after coming down with a fever.
Mark Regev, a spokesman for Netanyahu, said on Sunday the Israeli leader, 60, was not seriously ill but his doctor advised him to rest at home. A statement from Netanyahu’s bureau said his physician had “diagnosed a viral infection and fever” and that talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel had been rescheduled for January.
Ulrich Wilhelm, a German government spokesman, said Netanyahu had postponed his trip due to a “high fever” and that the Israeli and German leaders had decided to delay their meeting until next year. Netanyahu had been expected to seek stronger assurances from Merkel about Western aims to impose stiffer sanctions on Iran unless it accepted a UN plan to rein in its atomic project by shipping its low-enriched uranium abroad. Wilhelm had said that Merkel wanted to discuss with Netanyahu “the continuation of the Middle East peace process”, alluding to Israeli-Palestinian talks stalled since last December.
