| Police to be on high alert during Eid days |

Police and other law-enforcing agencies of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad would be on high alert during Eid days to avert possible acts of terrorism as repercussions of ‘Operation Rah-e-Nijat’ in South Waziristan, security agencies officials of the twin-cities said.
The Rawalpindi Police staged a flag-march in different areas of the city to show their strength against the miscreants. Police personnel of all sub-divisions and police stations participated in the vehicular and bike-riding flag-march. “Our police have capability to counter the terrorism,” police chiefs of twin-cities said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Islamabad, when asked said that newly established intelligence component — Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) — would take part in combating possible acts of terror.
Hundreds of plain-clothed intelligence personnel equipped with spying kits, would be deployed at sensitive points of the metropolis including Red Zone to monitor the activities of the suspects and they would be directly connected with their respective police station and Special Branch as well as the personal staff of SSP Islamabad, the IGP said.
Heavy contingent of uniformed and plain-clothed police would be deployed in and around the mosques, Imam Bargahs, Eid Gahs, bus stands, vegetable markets, public places and main markets of the twin-cities, district police chiefs of Rawalpindi and Islamabad told ‘The News’.
Leave of all police officials had already been cancelled; extra officials have been called in to strengthen the area police for patrolling and general checking, they added.
City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Rao Iqbal told ‘The News’ that security has been enhanced in Rawalpindi to counter violence, adding, many special measures have been taken for the first time to ensure the security of the people specially during Eid days. “Over 5,000 personnel have been deployed at sensitive points of the city,” the CPO said.
SSP, Islamabad, Tahir Alam Khan when contacted said that special police squads have been detailed to check hotels and guest houses and gather detail information of the outsiders staying temporarily here in the capital.
Following the security plan finalised by the top security officials, different special patrolling squad, equipped with latest technology, have be convened for snap checking and combing the sensitive areas and building in and around the city, the SSP added.
Armed police personnel would be deployed at 611 mosques and 25 Imam Bargahs in Islamabad to ensure the security during Eid prayers, he maintained.
Special message to the citizens were conveyed to ensure the internal security of the house before leaving their houses for spending Eid days in their villages, the SSP Alam said adding, Public Coordination Committee have been activated to keep vigil in their respective areas during the holidays.
Armed police personnel would be deployed at the entry points of Islamabad Highway, Faizabad and Tarnol, while special security measures would be taken to protect sensitive building including marked worship places, the SSP said adding, the entire incoming and outgoing road were barricaded and armed.
Reserves Police Force, Armourer Personnel Carrier (APC) and Anti Terrorist Cell (ATC) would be kept alert to manage any unpleasant situation, the other police sources said.
District Police Officer (DPO) Rawalpindi Saud Aziz when asked about the security measure said that 1,300 personnel of constabulary have been deployed at different sensitive points of the district to ensure law and order during the Eid days.
