Bureau report
PESHAWAR: A tribal leader in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan Friday lauded the resignation by the German army chief, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, to protest the civilian casualties in Afghanistan.
“We appreciate the resignation of the German army chief. Civilians are being killed in the bombardment by foreign forces in Afghanistan,” Asadullah Umerkhel, head of Umerkhel tribe in Aliabad district, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
More than 100 civilians were killed in September in an airstrike by coalition forces in Aliabad district of Kunduz province. “Most of the victims belonged to my tribe. We hope that foreign forces will have the realisation to condemn the slaying of civilians in Afghanistan,” he said.
He said the foreigners should follow the German army chief and realise the feelings of the Afghans. He also demanded of the Afghan authorities to condemn the killing of civilians.
