MIRAMSHAH: Elders of Utmanzai tribe Friday accused the Bannu administration of banning supply of daily-use commodities to militancy-hit North Waziristan.
Speaking at a press conference, tribal elders Malik Nasrullah Khan, Malik Qadir Khan, Malik Mamoor Khan, Malik Shireen Akbar and Malik Mumtaz Khan said the commissioner and district coordination officer of Bannu had banned supply of construction material, flour, diesel, sacrificial animals and other commodities, creating problems for North Waziristan residents.
They said the officials concerned mentioned “smuggling to Afghanistan” as a pretext for the ban.
“At a time when the security forces have sealed the whole border and movement across the border is very difficult, how could smuggling be continued to Afghanistan,” Malik Nasrullah said.
The elders demanded lifting of the ban on transportation of commodities forthwith and threatened to take extreme steps if the commissioner and DCO Bannu were not transferred.
