CDGK deploys 11,000 officials for disposal of offal
Saturday, November 28, 2009
By our correspondent

Karachi

City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, has said that leave of all concerned officers and field staff of the city government and town administration has been cancelled and more than 11,000 officials will perform their duties in the operation of lifting and disposal of offal of sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.

He expressed these views on Friday while talking to journalists after inspecting the trenches prepared at Mewa Shah adjacent to the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Machinery Pool Site for burial of offal collected during Eid-ul-Azha.

He said that a total of 42 trenches had been dug up in Mewa Shah, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Malir, Landhi, Gadap, Bin Qasim and Korangi Town for dumping and burial of offal with a carrying capacity of more than 15,00,000 offal.

Kamal said that in order to implement an identical policy for disposal of offal, the city government had also provided the offal burial facility to six cantonments and 12 other organisations.

He said that the Central Control Room at the city government could be contacted on 1339 for any complaints which would be addressed immediately through a task force established in 174 union councils and 18 towns of the city. Latest technology and past experience would be used for dumping of all offal in the trenches already earmarked by the Town Municipal Administrations (TMAs).

He said that the health department of the city government had made adequate arrangements for regular fumigation in the city during Eid days while vehicles of Machine Pool Depot Municipal Services Department with 800 officials would perform the function. 1,500 City Wardens were given special assignment on shift basis and they would be deployed in the city to support the whole arrangements during Eid-ul-Azha.

The Fire Brigade Department will perform the task to wash the areas where joint sacrifice is made. He said that EDO Municipal Services will be the focal person to assist and coordinate with all the stakeholders and will keep close liaison with them.
