ISLAMABAD: Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) has claimed that the government deliberately avoided consulting the leading Baloch tribes while preparing the Balochistan package, as it knew well that such kinds of packages will never be acceptable to them.
Talking to The News, JWP Balochistan President Shahzain Bugti said the only reason why the top Baloch tribal leadership was not consulted on the package was that they would never give a nod to it in its present shape.
He pointed out that no timeframe was given as to how the package would be implemented. He alleged that it reflected non-seriousness of the rulers.
The JWP leader, who is a grandson of late Nawab Akbar Bugti, noted that no special incentives were announced to rebuild parts of Sui and Kohlu, which were destroyed during the military operation.
“Similarly, there has been no word on reopening Dera Bugti to us and others. It has been a no-go area for us for years and continues to be out of bound for us,” he maintained.
In reply to a question, he said it was unfortunate that no categorical announcement was made with regard to stopping the construction of cantonments at Kohlu and Sui.
Though the government had announced to fully implement the Balochistan Assembly’s resolutions on provincial issues but even during his speech Prime Minister Gilani made no mention of sparing Gwadar from cantonments.
He questioned the logic behind halting work on new cantonments temporarily, saying why these projects were not abandoned in line with the provincial assembly’s resolutions.
The JWP leader claimed the government had failed to come up with a package it had hinted at on several occasions and that was the reason mainstream Baloch leaders were also overlooked. “The package in its present shape is totally unacceptable to us,” he made it clear.
Shahzain was not at all happy on the government decision to form a commission to investigate the killing of his grandfather and said that it was abundantly clear who was behind this gory act.
On this count, he referred to a statement by Interior Minister Rehman Malik that the government would issue red warrants of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in connection with the killing of Bugti and others, if the Balochistan Assembly adopted a resolution in this connection.
He noted his statement reflected the rulers were in the knowledge of Musharraf’s role in, what he called, the assassination of Akbar Bugti.
