Greater access for Pak products to EU sought
Saturday, November 28, 2009
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that Pakistan attached great value to its friendly ties with Germany, which were growing and strengthening with the passage of time in diversified fields for mutual advantage.

He expressed these views while talking to German Ambassador Dr Michael Koch, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House and discussed with him matters of mutual interest as well as the forthcoming visit of the prime minister to

Germany.

He said Germany was the fourth largest trading partner of Pakistan in the world and the largest in the European Union as well as a major donor and investor.

He said: “I am looking forward to my visit to Germany and meeting with German Chancellor Angela Markel and other dignitaries, which would open new vistas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.”

Gilani said strengthening of bilateral ties, particularly in trade, economic, science and technology, health and education fields, would be the main agenda during his meetings.

While noting Pakistan’s quest for reconstruction of Swat, Malakand and Fata, the prime minister said the Friends of Democratic Pakistan and the donor countries like Germany should help Pakistan in the reconstruction phase.

He emphasised that greater market access of the Pakistani products to the German

and European countries through the GSP Plus facilities would help Pakistan in addressing the root causes of militancy. He sought the support of Germany in this regard.
