 Swedish writer visits Lok Virsa

A high-level official delegation comprising internationally renowned Swedish writer, intellectual and poet, Peter Curman, accompanied by his daughter visited Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology, popularly known as Heritage Museum on Thursday.

The visit of Peter Curman is coordinated by Pakistan Academy of Letters. Curman is here in Pakistan to receive the most prestigious ‘Quaid-i-Azam International Award for Literature’ presented by Pakistan Academy of Letters.

The delegation took keen interest in the museum displays and greatly enjoyed the traditional art & craft, song and dance performances hosted by Lok Virsa to mark the visit Curman was highly appreciative of the vibrant cultural heritage preservation efforts. He said that it must be obligatory to any visitor to Pakistan to come here and see how rich the culture of Pakistan is. He termed the Heritage Museum as a gift to the mankind.

On arrival at Lok Virsa, the distinguished guest was received by Khalid Javaid, Executive Director, Lok Virsa. He briefed Peter Curman about the various projects and functionaries of Lok Virsa (National Institute of Folk & Traditional Heritage) and showed him round the museum spread over 60,000 square feet of area portraying living cultural traditions and lifestyles of the people of Pakistan depicted in dioramas and cultural displays in the museum.

Marking the occasion, Lok Virsa also organised an Artisans-at-Work exhibition with master craftsmen in the specialized craft fields of carpet weaving, papier mache, embroidery, stone carving from Taxila with Gandharan motifs, Gabba making and wax printing. Besides artisans-at-work, a live folkloric & musical performance with folk artists, musicians and dancers was also arranged.
