Jirga seeks help against terrorists

MARDAN: A regional Jirga of tribes here on Tuesday issued a global call to Pakhtuns to support anti-terrorism Lashkars. The Pakhtun Aman Jirga (PAJ) chairman and former NWFP Health Minister Syed Kamal Shah read out a resolution at the Jirga, which was passed unanimously by the Yusufzai, Mohmand and Bajaur tribal elders calling for consensus that Peshawar, the capital of Pakhtuns, was under mounting attack and if the terrorists were not stopped by public armed force of Lashkars, it might fall. The consequences of this tragedy would trigger the collapse of all the NWFP towns.
Imran Khan turns 57

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and cricket legend, Imran Khan, turned 57 on Wednesday (today). A cake cutting ceremony was held by PTI Punjab in which main party leaders including Omer Sarfaraz Cheema, Admiral (Retd) Javed Iqbal, Talat Naqvi and others also participated.
Three bridges blown up

HANGU: Unidentified miscreants blew up three bridges on the Kohat-Orakzai Road on Wednesday. Sources said in order to create hurdles for the movement of security forces in the aream, the miscreants blew up three bridges at Oblan and Dana Khla areas on Kohat-Orakzai Road.
Zardari orders preservation of Lal Shahbaz’s tomb
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari directed the concerned authorities on Wednesday to carry out a detailed survey for the preservation of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s tomb and prepare a plan for its renovation. During a presentation given to him on renovation and preservation of the Mazaar, the president said cultural assets must be preserved so that people all across the world could learn, observe and feel Sufism. The presentation given by Managing Director NESPAK Asad I A Khan was also attended among others by Secretary General to the President, Salman Farooqi and other officials.
Police firing kills one in Hangu

HANGU: One person was killed when the police opened fire on a passenger coach in Darozai Palosa checkpost on Wednesday. DSP Farid Khattak said the security men signalled a coach, which was coming from Daburi area of Orakzai Agency to Hangu district, to stop but the driver did not stop the vehicle, prompting the policemen to open fire on the coach. As a result, one passenger, identified as Haji Gul, son of Shah Afzal, was killed on the spot. The police arrested the driver and impounded the vehicle.
Railways fail to satisfy PAC body
LAHORE: The sub-committee of the National Assembly’s PAC has directed the Pakistan Railways to re-appropriate their budget allocations under various heads. The committee held a meeting on monitoring and implementation of its earlier directives regarding Ministry of Railways at the PR Headquarters here on Wednesday. The department’s high-ups failed to give appropriate answers to the questions of the committee members.
