PPP slates selective justice of West
Karachi, November 25, 1999
The Pakistan People’s Party has criticized the alleged dual standards observed by the Western countries while dealing with the affairs of the Third World countries, including Pakistan.
In an open letter, signed by PPP member of the suspended Senate, Raza Rabbani, the party has drawn the attention of intellectuals, journalists, lawyers, Human Right activists and other professionals towards what the PPP termed as discrimination, and ‘blatant deviation in principles of policy’ of western countries.
The PPP letter stated: “We the people of Pakistan ask through you, the capitals of the West: Are the right to a free trial and enforcement of fundamental rights matters of selective application in Third World countries? Are popular leaders in these countries such as Benazir Bhutto to be discriminated against?
We the People of Pakistan, see a duality in principles, standards, moral, ethical and political values being exercised by the Western world in dealing with the two former Pakistani prime minister, Benazir and Nawaz.
