PUNJAB Food Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran has said the federal government has allowed the Punjab government to procure rice crop in collaboration with the PASSCO for the first time and released Rs 500 million.
He was speaking at a press conference at Director General Public Relations Office DGPR on Monday. The minister said the federal government had allowed the Punjab Government to procure rice in Gujranwala and Sheikhupura districts.
The procurement process in these two districts would start from 9am on Tuesday morning, he said.
He said 20 and 14 procurement centres had been set up in Sheikhupura and Gujranwala districts respectively with PASSCO centres already working there. He said the number of these centres would be increased if necessary in the future.
He said the Punjab CM had showed concern for this purpose and requested Prime Minister to work them in collaboration with PASSCO to meet the procurement targets which were very low and hence the PM permitted and released the amount to Punjab Food Department. He said after this decision, farmers producing 500 munds of rice would be paid on the spot.
