Monday, November 23, 2009
By Our Correspondent

LAHORE

A TEAM of noted general surgeons from the Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, led by Prof Zafar Ali Chaudhry, visited the District Headquarters Hospital, Sahiwal and performed laproscopic surgeries on a number of patients.

According to a press release here on Sunday, the visit was in line with the Districts Attachment Program initiated by the Punjab government to provide tertiary health care level facilities to the residents of the outlying districts of the province. Sahiwal and Okara districts are attached to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore. The patients in these districts have had the benefit of highly sophisticated surgical procedures such as laproscopic surgery under this program.

Another team of urologists, led by Dr Kamran Bhatti, visited the DHQ hospital, Okara and offered expert advice to patients. A number of patients requiring tertiary care were also referred to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, for further treatment. A team of surgeons and paediatricians also visited Okara hospitals. These visits are now a frequent occurrence and higher training of district specialists is also undertaken during the visits of the consultants from JHL. It is proving to be a boon for the medical community of the areas while the general public benefits immensely from the improved standards of health care delivery. The notables of the area have appreciated these visits.
