LAHORE
PAKISTAN People’s Party Human Rights Wing General Secretary Munir Ahmed Khan demanded the release of a list of politicians who had their loans written off by former President Pervez Musharraf.
Flanked by former Senior Minister and an NRO beneficiary, Malik Mushtaq Ahmed Awan, he said the PPP leadership was never afraid of facing courts as in the past it had bravely faced trials and was acquitted.
He said before the release of the NRO list, there was a lot of hue and cry but much to the shock of anti-democratic elements, just a few PPP members were in the list. He said the list had names of over 8,000 people.
Munir Ahmed Khan said some politicians or retired judges had demanded of PPP members to resign from their offices but this was meaningless, unjustified and had no significance.
He said the demand of resignation from the PPP members was just made by the elements that were themselves convicted by NAB and later got pardon from Musharraf.
He said such elements, who demanded the dismissal of a democratic government just for one issue should face reality.
To a question, the PPP leader said it was a well-known fact that all the cases registered against the PPP leaders were politically motivated, which later even Saifur Rehman, a major player behind registration of these cases had to admit. Besides, he said the cases were registered by former President Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari and most of the PPP leaders including party Co Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Jehangir Badr, Mushtaq Awan even faced imprisonment but nothing was proved.
On the occasion, Malik Mushtaq Ahmed Awan said he was given very lucrative offers by Pervez Musharraf for stop supporting Benazir Bhutto and becoming a court approver against her. He said this was the reason why he was victimized by the then government.
He said he was offered the slot of MNA but remained committed to the party and even appeared before courts with his slain party leader and Asif Ali Zardari.
