PAC warns NLC over delay in submitting probe report
Sunday, November 22, 2009
ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, warned on Saturday the National Logistic Cell (NLC) of an “uncomplimentary action” in case it failed to submit the inquiry report regarding massive financial irregularities.

The committee had asked the NLC through the Planning and Development Division on October 29 to identify the officials held responsible for losses of Rs1.7 billion to the national entity due to investment in volatile stock exchange business. However, the PAC did not received the Inquiry report within given 15 days from NLC authorities which caused annoyance to the PAC chairman.

“Convey them to submit the report within the next 15 days or otherwise wait for our course of action. And I am saying such action would not be complimentary for them,” Nisar told the National Assembly’s PAC Secretariat.

He said 1.7 billion rupees losses suffered by NLC from investment in stock exchange between 2004 and 2008 were of serious concern for the committee.

“They had pledged during the previous appearance before the committee to submit para-wise inquiry report, besides fixing responsibility,” Nisar said.

Earlier, PAC Secretariat officials briefed the committee that NLC had sought an extension of another 15 days because it wanted clearance from the top management to give names of the officials involved.
