 BNP rejects Balochistan Package
Saturday, November 21, 2009
By our correspondent

Karachi

The Executive Committee Members of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) rejected the Balochistan Package on Friday which was presented by the federal government and stated that they will announce a protest schedule in two days.

Talking to the local media at the Karachi Press Club, the Acting President BNP, Dr Jehan Zeb Jamaldini, former MNA Abdul Rauf Mengal, Malik Naseer Shahwani, Central Secretary of the farmers’ body, and others were present on this occasion.

“The situation has not changed yet. It was the same as in Musharraf’s regime. The people of Balochistan are still facing a military operation and extra-judicial killings have not stopped so far,” the BNP members said.

The province has been become a colony of the paramilitary personnel and locals have been deprived of their basic rights, they said, adding, “Millions of rupees are due against the government for gas, minerals and fisheries industries but unfortunately, the government has tied these with the NFC Award.”

The target killings of the Baloch people and especially political activists should be stopped immediately, they demanded. The government should also recover the missing persons at the earliest, they added.

“The government of Pakistan has no ability to solve the issues of Balochistan nor does it have the power to find a political solution to the issues,” Dr Jamaldini said. He said that the UN and peace-loving countries should include the Balochistan issue in the charter of the UNO. “There is no concept of basic rights in Balochistan and now the Baloch have different mindset. They want full control over the province’s property”, BNP officials said.
