 Ministry to create sports facilities in rural areas

ISLAMABAD: Under the instruction of Federal Minister for Sports, Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, the Ministry of sports had adopted a paradigm shift to create sports facilities in rural areas of the country.

It has been decided in a recent meeting that sports projects to provide sporting outreach to the rural sprouting youth and get them involved in mainstream sporting activities be planned.

Unveiling details, Jilani said that the approval of three projects in Central Development Working Party (CDWP) meeting is a way forward to getting a major chunk of rural youth to participate in all and sundry games at district and national level. He said that the poor standard of sports had resulted into a loss of interest among the masses particularly at rural level. Aftab Jilani said that the had approved three sports projects for Sukkur, Narowal and Multan.

The CDWP approved the construction of sports complex at Sukkur costing Rs 654.315 million. The development will not only benefit the people of Sukkur but also the people of adjoining areas.

The construction of sports complex at Narowal at a cost of Rs 786.14 million had been approved. “The establishment of Narowal sports complex would ultimately generate healthy activities for the entire region since it is located in central Punjab,” the minister said.

The CDWP had also approved a project of renovation of the existing Qasim Bagh football stadium at Multan costing Rs. 356.881 million. The existing football ground is ideally located in the heart of city and upgradation will restore the originality of the historic Qasim Bagh.
