Students briefed on safety measures

Islamabad
Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area Zone) Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani Thursday briefed students of the Islamabad Model College, G-6, on precautionary measures against terror activities, a police spokesman said. He said that students must keep a vigilant eye on their surroundings and inform ‘Rescue 15’ and relevant police stations about any suspicious activity. He appealed to students not to pay heed to rumours and avoid sending messages through mobile phones creating confusion and fear among people. In case of observing suspicious motorbikes or vehicles in the vicinity of their academic institution, the SP asked students to inform police.
7 DSPs appointed

Islamabad: Inspector General Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam has appointed seven deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), who had recently completed training from Police Training College, Sihala, police sources said. DSP Naeem Iqbal has been appointed as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Margalla Circle while Ashraf Shah as DSP (Headquarters), the sources said, adding that Musarrat Khan has been asked to rejoin his previous post of DSP Rescue-15. DSPs Fida Hussain Satti, Arshad Khokhar and Khalid Nadeem have been transferred to Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) and Idrees Rathore as DSP Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS).
91,900 kids given anti-polio vaccine

Islamabad: District Health Officer (Islamabad) Dr. Amirzada Khan has said that the Health Department has achieved 100 per cent target during the ongoing anti-polio drive in rural areas of Islamabad. As many as 91,900 children have been administered anti-polio drops, the deputy commissioner’s office said. He said that the catch-up activity in rural areas of Islamabad would continue till November 20.
Sports Week starts at Hamdard University
Islamabad: The Annual Sports Week has kicked off at the Hamdard University. It will feature cricket, table tennis, volleyball, football, and badminton matches. Addressing students at the opening ceremony here on Wednesday, CDA Director General Civic Management and Public Relations Syed Mustafain Kazmi said that the Hamdard University was playing a vital role for the promotion of sports alongside the development of higher education through which students get confidence and develop sportsman’s spirit essential for development of mind and to become a good citizen. Hamdard University Director General Professor Dr. Masud Malik said that the academic institution carries on its tradition to hold such events annually. Games develop the spirit of competition among students. Director Administration Colonel (r) Mushtaq Qureshi thanked the chief guest.
Chehlum
Islamabad: The ‘chehlum’ of the former vice chairman of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), Fakhruddin Mallick, will be observed today (Friday) between ‘Asr’ and ‘Maghrib’ prayers at House no. 22, Street 20, Sector F-7/2. All friends and well-wishers have been requested to attend ‘dua’, says a press release.
