The temporary allotment issue of the residents of Gulshan-e-Jinnah has finally been resolved, as Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani assured that no policy, which is against the basic rights and public interest, would be formulated.
The allottees of Gulshan-e-Jinnah Complex have appreciated the prime minister and Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan for resolving the temporary allotment issue under the new policy. They said the decision has ended the unrest among a population of more than 1,500 people, living there since many years. The allottees, their children, women and people of different walks of lives hailed the PM’s decision, saying that he has won the hearts of the people and proved that the democratic government of Pakistan People’s Party is public friendly.
A four-member delegation of Gulshan-e-Jinnah Welfare Association (GWA), led by President Noor Zaman along with Federal Minister Dr Babar Awan, had called on the prime minister on Monday in his Chamber at the Parliament House and apprised him about the situation that had risen after the step taken by the Ministry of Housing & Works regarding the new allotment policy in Gulshan-e-Jinnah. The delegation also briefed the PM about the notices for temporary allotment to all legal allottees, the issue’s affect on the lives of hundreds of families, the strong protest by the allottees, women and children, along with the violation of human rights and other related issues.
The prime minister had taken serious note of the complaints and issuance of notices to the allottees, and assured the delegation that the matter would be resolved and the families living in Gulshan-e-Jinnah would face no further problem. The prime minister had told the delegation that the policy of the government is to provide shelter to all Pakistanis and resolve basic problems of the people, adding that there would be no formulation of policy against the basic rights and public interest. He also gave necessary directives on the occasion in this regard.
The allottees have also appreciated the role of Dr Babar Awan, who felt the gravity of the problem and took personal interest in resolving the issue by bringing it in the notice of the prime minister. They were also pleased that due to the minister’s personal interest, the matter ended within 48 hours of its inception along with a strong reaction by the allottees.
The allotees also expressed their thanks to former MNA Mian Aslam and other leaders and NGOs that expressed solidarity by rejecting the new policy and terming it a violation of human rights.
