IJT holds rally against ‘US interference’
Wednesday, November 18, 2009
LAHORE

THE Islami Jamiat Talaba while holding Baidare-e-Talaba rally on Tuesday rejected the ëDo Moreí demand of the US and denounced its interference in Pakistan.

Students from various colleges and universities of the provincial metropolis participated in the rally and expressed resentment against the US interference in Pakistan, saying that it must be end to ensure sovereignty of the country and to end terrorism in the region. They were carrying banners and placards and were chanting slogans.

The rally, led by IJT Pakistan nazim Attiqur Rehman started from the Punjab Universityís Old Campus and culminated at Faisal Chowk near the Punjab Assembly where Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch and Hafiz Salman Butt addressed the participants.

Liaqat Baloch said the US; India and Israel were behind terror activities inside the country and they wanted to get Pakistan declared as a failed state by creating poor law and order situation and added that there was a need to create awareness among the masses about it.

ìThe anti-Pakistan forces have joined hands,î Baloch said and added that students had a pivotal role to play in the prevailing situation.

The JI leader also criticised the rulers, saying they had put the countryís sovereignty at stake for their vested interests. He condemned the drone and said that innocent people were also being killed in the attacks.

Attiqur Rehman said a convention would be organised in Islamabad on Nov 25 by Jamiat in which students from across the country would participate to show the rulers that their policies were not accepted.

It is pertinent to mention here that a traffic mess was also witnessed on different roads adjacent to The Mall owing to Jamiat’s rally.

Enemies of nation supporting military operation: Jamaat e Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch said US President Obama’s pressure on President Zardari to “Do More” was simply due to the cowardice of the democratic government that has been blindly following the US dictation without any reservation.

He called upon the government to review its foreign and internal policies and tell the Washington to mind its own business as Islamabad could not destroy the country any more for its cause.

In a statement on Tuesday, Liaquat Baloch said that the threats to the country’s ideology, sovereignty and nuclear programme were primarily due to the weaknesses of the rulers.

He said the PPP and its allies were responsible for the killings of the tribal people in the military operation. He said only the enemies of the nation and the country were supporting the military operation which was increasing hatred for the armed forces among the tribal people. The military operation in Swat, Malakand, South Waziristan did not yield any positive results but now it was being extended to North Waziristan and south Punjab also on the US dictation.

He said the US, India and Israel were the only beneficiaries of the military operation whereas millions of people had been made homeless and thousands were missing. He welcomed the Supreme Court observation in a case of missing persons that the government could not be given more time in this case. Liaquat Baloch demanded concrete steps for the repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqi and other Pakistanis from abroad.

Liaquat Baloch expressed concern about the security of the country’s nuclear programme and nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, in the backdrop of reports about the arrival of US squad and the Blackwaters in the federal capital. He said, “Our nuclear facility guaranteed national security but the enemy was making frantic efforts to take its control.” The threats to nuclear installations have multiplied with the arrival of Blackwaters and the US marines roaming about freely in Islamabad, he said.
