The Pakistan Association of Photo Journalists (PAPJ) on Sunday held its first convention here at the Pakistan Japan Cultural Centre (PJCC).
The convention was attended by around 100 photojournalists from different cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Larkana, Sukkur, Quetta, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Lahore, Islamabad, Muzaffarabad, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Peshawar.
Sindh Minister for Trade and Industry, Rauf Siddiqui, was the chief guest at the inaugural session of the convention. Fatima Suriya Bajiya, Saadia Rashid, and Arsalan Hashmi also addressed the session.
In the latter two sessions, the photojournalists discussed various issues and problems they faced in the line of duty.
In the final session, the convention elected PAPJ body for the year 2009-10. According to the decision, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman from Karachi will be president PAPJ, its vice-president will be Sohail Shahzad from Islamabad, Secretary-General Muhammad Ramazan from Lahore, Joint-Secretary Akram Shahid from Hyderabad, and Treasurer Adeel Khan from Karachi.
Members of the executive committee are Naqeeb-ur-Rehman from Karachi, Haji Ibrahim from Faisalabad, Shoaib Qureshi from Multan, Ashraf Ali Khan from Bhakkar, Abrar Tanoli from Abbottabad/Mansehra, Mohsin Naseer from Quetta, Sajjad Qayyum from Azad Kashmir. A four-member committee was also constituted on the occasion to formulate election rules for the photojournalists’ body within six months.
