Karachi

The Sohrab Goth police on Tuesday faced stiff resistance from encroachers and was forced to retreat after hundreds of people including women and children attacked them as they tried to get a disputed piece of land evacuated from encroachers in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area on court orders.

Tension gripped the area after the mob resorted to aerial firing and pelted stones, forcing the police to wrap up its operation. Police personnel were also wounded in the clash with encroachers.

The police said that the incident occurred when a police party moved with the court and government officials to get the land of Aligarh Cooperative Housing Society in Gulshan-e-Maymar area, adding that they faced tough resistance from the encroachers.

Due to the presence of a large number of enraged people at the encroached land, the police wrapped up its operation following directives from the high-ups, the officials said.

They claimed that around 15 acres was occupied by unknown people, who had placed flags of a ruling party around the encroached land and whenever the police takes action against them, they create a law and order situation. Sohrab Goth police said that they had not registered any case till the filing of this report.
