Curfew in NWA irks intending pilgrims

MIRAMSHAH: The security forces Monday extended curfew in various parts of North Waziristan for an indefinite period, making it difficult for the intending pilgrims to reach Peshawar for their scheduled flights to Saudi Arabia. Sources said the law enforcement agencies extended curfew in various parts of the agency, including Dossali, Miramshah and Mir Ali and also in the adjoining Bakkakhel area in Frontier Region Bannu and other bordering areas of the agency for security reasons. The sources added that the prolonged curfew had made it difficult for the intending pilgrims to catch their scheduled flights as all the main roads including the Bannu-Miramshah Road had been closed for traffic.

MARDAN: Noted cleric and spiritual figure, Maulana Noorul Haq, popularly known as Muhib Babaji, died here Monday after protracted illness. He was 90. His funeral prayer will be offered today (Tuesday) at 11 a.m. in Muhib Banda village. He was father of Noorul Huda, Sirajul Haq and Zahoorul Haq and brother of Haji Fazal Haq.



Two shot dead, 25 held in Dera

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two people were shot dead and 25 suspected persons rounded up in the district separately on Monday. Sources said five unidentified gunmen killed a schoolteacher identified as Muhammad Ayub near Government High School in Ramak area in the jurisdiction of Prua Police Station. In another incident, un-identified men shot dead Akbar Zaman and dumped his body in Yaminzai area. Meanwhile, security forces arrested 25 suspected persons during search in various parts of Kulachi tehsil.



Blood bank set up in Mansehra

MANSEHRA: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) here Monday established a blood bank at District Headquarters Hospital here for mothers and infants. A ceremony was held at the hospital that was attended among others by District Naib Nazim Attiqur Rehman Jahangiry, district head of UNFPA, Dr Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Irshad and Dr Mohammad Niaz. Jahangiry said the establishment of the blood bank was an essential facility as blood was direly needed during operations in the labour rooms for expectant mothers. He said the district government would extend all possible help to the hospital’s gynaecology department.



5 soldiers hurt in road mishap

NOWSHERA: Five personnel of the security forces were injured when their vehicle fell from a bridge in cantonment area here Monday. Eyewitnesses said convoy of the security forces was on way to Attock from Peshawar when a cyclist identified as Muhamamd Salim all of a sudden appeared on the road. The vehicle fell from the Babu Bridge while saving the cyclist. As a result, five soldiers including Muhammad Tanveer, Rizwanullah, Amrez and Naushad were injured. The injured were rushed to the Combined Military Hospital.



Rockets fired

GHALLANAI: The political administration in Mohmand Agency arrested eight Afghan nationals on the Karapa checkpoint while unidentified persons fired three rockets on Mohmand Rifles camp in Mamad Gat Monday. However no human loss was reported. Sources said the rockets were fired at the camp from Soran Darra area in the agency. The security forces targeted the hideouts of the militants with artillery soon after the incident, however there was no information about the casualties, the sources added. In another incident the political administration held eight Afghan nationals and seized their vehicle. They were traveling in the agency without valid documents, the official said.



Soldier dies

BATKHELA: A soldier was killed and 15 others injured in a road accident in Jalawanan area of Malakand Agency Monday. Official sources said convoy of the security forces was on way to Swat when one of its vehicles collided with another one transporting troops to Mardan in Jalawanan area, leaving one soldier, identified as Sepoy Muhammad Ishaq, dead while 15 others injured. The identity of the injured soldiers could not be ascertained as they were rushed to the military hospitals in Mardan and Nowshera.



19 arrested

BARA: Security forces here Monday arrested 19 suspects in Alam Gudar area in the ongoing operation to clear the area of militants. Official sources said that personnel of the Frontier Corps raided various hideouts and arrested 19 persons identified as Sher Khan, Munsif Khan, Zeeshan, Dilshad, Bashir Khan, Rahman Shah, Bilal, Rahmat Khan, Nazeer, Rahmatullah and Salman. The security forces have claimed arresting more than 150 suspected persons during search operations over the last two months.



GB Govt to be formed till Nov 25

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced to form first elected government of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) till November 25 and acting Governor Qamar Zaman Kaira has informed all stakeholders in this regard, sources said. The sources said the PPP candidates have started lobbying to get slot of GB chief minister, adding that Wazir Shakil or Mehdi Shah could be elected as GB CM.



Only talks can solve Pak-India issues: Qureshi

MULTAN: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Monday said that dialogue is the only option for solution of problems and the whole world is now urging India to hold dialogue with Pakistan. Talking to reporter at the Multan airport, Qureshi termed the statement of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about dialogue process as positive. Referring to his meeting with his Indian counterpart in New York, Foreign Minister Qureshi said the meeting was positive and Pakistan has been of the view since long and still now that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and India would have to understand that we could not become hostage in the hands of terrorists. “Terrorists will try to disrupt the Composite Dialogue but we would have to determine our priorities,” he remarked and added that the intelligent and intellectual circles of India have also confessed that dialogue is the only way with Pakistan.
