LAHORE

The poetry of Allama Muhammad Iqbal resounded in the Government College University (GCU) on Monday as the varsity’s music society held an event to pay tribute to the national poet.

Iqbal’s powerful mystical poetry coupled with strong compositions and students’ melodious voices held the audience spellbound. A press release said Nazir Ahmed Music Society’s adviser, Prof Shafiq Ajmi, opened the concert by singing various famous verses from Iqbal’s poetry. Muhammad Saad Farooq, a BA (Hons) Part-III semester, struck up a poem about Iqbal that he had written during his stay in London, “Tu Abhi Rahguzar Mein Hai, Qaid-E-Makaam Se Guzar”.

Imran Fida, a student of BA (Hons) First Semester, sang “Auron Ka Payam Aur, Mera Payam Aur Hai”. Hassan Maqsood highlighted Iqbal’s message for Muslim unity by singing “Aik Hoon Muslim Haram Ki Pasbani Ke Liye.”
