 Billions embezzled by local bodies: Shahbaz
Says cardiac hospital to be set up in Quetta

LAHORE

CHIEF Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on Friday presided over a meeting regarding a special audit report on the irregularities in institutions of the local bodies.

Punjab Minister for Local Government Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa, Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, additional chief secretary, Local Government secretary and director general anti-corruption participated in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said billion of rupees were embezzled in the name of development in local bodies institutions and serious irregularities had surfaced regarding the funds. He said those local bodies institutions should be identified in which funds were misappropriated on a large scale. He issued directions for constitution of a committee, headed by the minister for local government, which would identify the local bodies institutions in which irregularities were committed. He said that the committee should submit its recommendations for taking action against the corrupt institutions.

The CM said the Punjab Local Government Ordinance should be reviewed in detail and besides amendments in it, special attention should be paid for ensuring accountability and transparency.

CM FOR COLLECTIVE EFFORT AGAINST

CORRUPTION: Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that corruption has weakened the foundations of the country and there is a need for collective efforts for rooting out the curse.

Talking to PML-N workers from Kasur here on Friday, he said misappropriation of funds would never be allowed. He said the uplift projects worth billions of rupees had been started for the provision of basic amenities to the citizens. He said a high standard of construction, timely completion of projects and transparent utilisation of funds were being ensured. He said workers were asset to the party and their suggestions were given due importance regarding the welfare projects.

Mr Shahbaz said politics of the PML-N was aimed at service to people and raising their living standards. He said revolutionary programmes had been started for provision of basic amenities to people. He said the government was making efforts to mitigate the sufferings of the poor and all-out resources were being utilised for this purpose. He said only people had the right over the national resources and they were being spent on health, education and basic facilities for the public. He said that on the instructions of PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif, a number of welfare projects had been initiated for first time in the history of the country.

The chief minister said a package for the development of Kasur was being implemented and solid measures were being taken for the early completion of the Lahore-Kasur Road. He said it was unfortunate that the project worth four billion rupees had not been completed despite a passage of four years, adding that no project was executed timely during the tenure of the last government. He said action had been taken against

the officers of the Communication and Works Department who were found guilty of negligence in the implementation of Lahore-Kasur Road Project. He said one more degree college would be set up in Kasur during the next financial year. He said the state land should be identified for the construction of a stadium in Kasur city.

The CM said that the sacrifices of the party workers made during the eight-year dictatorial rule would not go in vain. He said the PML-N leadership acknowledged the services and the struggle of the PML-N workers for the revival of democracy in the country. He said that reorganisation of the PML-N was in progress and the workers who had made sacrifices would be given due representation. He said that the due respect would be given to the workers and their proposals would be considered. He urged the party workers to play an active role for timely and quality completion of development schemes and the solution to public problems.

The PML-N workers, while expressing their confidence in the leadership of PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, said unprecedented development work was in progress in Kasur. They said the chief minister had won the hearts of the people by initiating revolutionary uplift projects. They apprised the chief minister of public issues and development projects in Kasur.

Those, who met the chief minister, included PML-N Kasur Secretary General Jamil Khan, Nasir Mahmood Khan, Haji Habib Ahmed, Hassan Ali Khan, Haji Safdar Ansari, Haibat Nawaz Niazi, Haji Muhammad Akram, Haji Ayaz Ahmed and Chaudhry Mubashar Nawaz.



CARDIAC HOSPITAL IN QUETTA:

Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government will construct a latest cardiac hospital in Quetta. He said training would also be arranged for doctors, nurses and paramedics of Balochistan for the institute.

He made the announcement while presiding over a high level meeting regarding establishment of the Balochistan Institute of Cardiology, Quetta, here on Friday.

He said the state-of-the-art hospital cardiac hospital would be a gift from Punjab for Balochistan. He said this would be the first hospital to be constructed on “a keyturn basis” that’s why services of the maximum experts should be acquired for its success. He said Pakistan had limited resources, therefore, austerity should also be kept in view while ensuring high quality in development projects. He said the latest and best medical equipments would be provided in the hospital and a construction firm would also provide equipments in addition to the construction design.

The chief minister said a system of training of doctors, nurses and paramedics of Balochistan on an emergency basis should be evolved so that they could perform their duties at the completion of the hospital. He said utilisation of locally-made material of international standard should be encouraged in the construction of the hospital.

The meeting was informed that the special committee, constituted under the supervision of Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, had negotiated with two firms, including a German company, interested in constructing the Balochistan Institute of Cardiology. The meeting was informed that the site had been identified for the hospital and soon foundation stone of the project would be laid. Important decisions were also made during the meeting regarding an agreement and other details with the German construction company.

Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Punjab Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, MNA Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq and others were present.
