Case ordered against Wattoo’s son

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday directed the SHO Shadman police station to register a case against the son of former Punjab chief minister Mian Manzoor Wattoo. The petitioner, Rana Munawar Ali, through his counsel Chaudhry Aslam, advocate, had moved an application for the registration of case against Moazzam Wattoo for allegedly occupying his car for seven years. He alleged that he rented his car to Moazzam through his friend, Arshad, who was running car rental business in Samnabad. He said the accused rented his car for Rs 25,000 per month. He said Arshad was later jailed and the accused stopped the payment of rent. He said when he asked the accused to pay the rent, he refused to do so and told him that he would pay the rent only to Arshad.



CEC restores membership of two MPAs

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Hamid Ali Mirza has restored the membership of the Punjab Assembly of two legislators. According to the election commissioner of Pakistan, the commission has restored their membership as the two have now filed statement of assets and liabilities and have fulfilled the legal requirement. The commission has restored membership of Muhammad Ajmal (PP-63 Faisalabad-XIII) and Sardar Mir Badshah Khan Qaisrani (PP-240 Dera Ghazi Khan-I).



One dead, five hurt in Osta Muhammad

QUETTA: A woman was killed while five other commuters were wounded in a road accident near Osta Muhammad on Thursday, police said. A passenger wagon overturned when the driver took a sharp turn in order to avoid slamming into a motorbike. The woman, identified as Khatun Bibi, died in hospital during treatment.



Two killed in Pano Aqil road accident

SUKKUR: Two persons were killed in a road accident while 15 others were injured when a coach overturned after its tie-rod broke on the National Highway near Pano Aqil on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Sabir Awan and Imran. In another incident, Maqsood Ahmed Memon was killed after he resisted robbers near Tharo Shah while Abdul Karim Abro was killed by a stray bullet in the same jurisdiction. The body of a missing youth, Habibullah, was recovered in Ghotki. He went missing a day earlier.



Bomb hoax in Larkana school

LARKANA: A bomb hoax created panic at the Government Girls’ School, Larkana, on Thursday. Soon after the hoax bomb call, hundreds of girls and teachers started running out of the school. The Bomb Disposal Squad got the entire building vacated and gave clearance after searching it.

PAF chief reaches Sri Lanka

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman on Thursday reached Sri Lanka on a three-day official visit. During the visit, the CAS would call on Sri Lankan president, prime minister and the services chiefs.



Brother throws acid on sister

MULTAN: A woman was seriously injured when her brother allegedly threw acid on her face here on Thursday, police said. Razia, resident of 17-Kassi, had been living in Darul Aman for the last two months due to strained relations with her husband and had filed a suit against him. On Thursday morning, she reached the district courts to attend the hearing of her case when her brother Waqas stopped her outside the court and asked her to reach a compromise with her husband. Razia, however, refused, which led to an exchange of arguments and the infuriated brother threw acid on her face. Razia was rushed to Nishtar Hospital, where she is under treatment. The accused has been arrested by the Chelyak Police.



Two militants among four killed in Buner

DAGGAR: Four persons, including two militants, were killed and six others arrested in the continuing search and clearance operation in the mountains of Elum in Buner district on Thursday. The sources said security forces continued their advance in Elum area from four directions. Security forces killed two militants, identified as Habibur Rahman and Bacha, brothers of an important militant commander Naseeb, in a gunbattle. A minor and a woman were also killed in firing, the sources added. Five militants were arrested from the area. Residents of the area said the militants, along with their families, had shifted to the centuries-old caves in Elum mountains after the forces launched the military operation in Buner.



SPY announces pro-Zardari rallies

HYDERABAD: The Sindh People’s Youth Organisation and the Sindh People’s Students Federation of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party here on Thursday announced to take out rallies across the province from Nov 14 to 19 in support of President Asif Zardari. Speaking at a news conference at the Circuit House, SPY Central President Aajiz Dhamrah and SPSF president Sohrab Marri said the rallies would be taken out in divisional headquarters against what they described as a media trial of President Zardari. They said a conspiracy against democracy was being hatched but made it clear that the conspiracy against democracy and President Zardari would be foiled. They announced that a separate rally would be taken out from the Mazar of Benazir Bhutto to Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi on Nov 23. Meanwhile, a rally in support of President Zardari was taken out from Husseinabad to the press club under the aegis of the People’s Intellectual Forum.



Mardan police arrest 35 prayer leaders

MARDAN: The police claimed to have arrested 35 prayer leaders (Pesh Imams) belonging to Afghanistan, 538 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 73 miscreants in the last two months and also seizing a huge cache of weapons. District police officer (DPO) Mardan Haji Waqif Khan told reporters on Thursday that the police arrested 538 POs and recovered 80 Kalashnikov rifles, 66 Kalakovs, 179 rifles, 754 pistols and 380 kg explosive materials.



Journalist threatened

LARKANA: The Sindh Sahafi Sangat, Larkana chapter, on Thursday condemned the threats to a senior journalist of Daur. Sangat Sindh President Nazir Siyal said some elements were issuing threats of dire consequences to Anwar Adil Khanzada on accurate reporting. They called for protection and security of journalists.
