LAHORE
PUNJAB Governor Salman Taseer has called for setting up day care centre for setting up daycare centres for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
The governor was talking to a five-member delegation of the Regional Pacific Conference led by Chief Executive Alzheimer Disease International Marc Wortmann. The delegation called on the governor on Thursday.
The governor congratulated Dr Yasmin Rashid, the chairperson of the Alzheimer Disease International Pakistan Chapter, for holding a successful conference in Pakistan.
He said the ratio of Alzheimer’s disease was very low in Pakistan and the main reason was the joint family system. He said Islam had issued strict instructions regarding rights of human beings and it attached great importance to the rights of parents.
He said those who shift their parents to old homes were unfortunate as rather than serving their parents, they send them away.
He said the main reason for this disease was social indiscrimination and lack of attention towards old people. He urged Alzheimer Disease International to set up day care centres to help the old lead a normal life.
