LAHORE
A 32-year-old man was burnt alive in the Mughalpura area on Tuesday.
Police said Qaisar of Mianwali, a security guard in a construction company at Mughalpura, set fire to woods to beat the cold. He poured petrol on the burning woods when flames caught him and he sustained burns. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
Bomb hoax in school: A bomb hoax created panic in a school near Qurban Line on Tuesday.
Bomb Disposal Squad, ambulances and police officials rushed to the scene. However, the call regarding the plantation of bombs turned out to be a hoax.
Police said Rizwan, principal of a private school, received a call that three bombs had been planted in the school building which would explode in few minutes. Rizwan informed the police and Bomb Disposal Squad whose officials cleared the school premises after thorough search.
Hand-grenade seized: Police seized a hand-grenade and detonators near Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
Bomb Disposal Squad reached the site and defused the explosive device.
21 held for merrymaking: Police Tuesday arrested 21 people, including 13 women, on the charges of merrymaking.
Shahdara police arrested Rashid, Asif, Riaz, Ashiq, Shama, Kausar, Musarrat, Shagufta, Aneesa and others. Green Town police arrested Kalsoom, Nasreen, Shahbaz, Altaf and Hafiz Shafique. Iqbal Town police arrested Sabara Bano, Mushtaq and others.
Shop gutted: Shoes and other goods worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes after a fire broke out in a shoe shop in the Misri Shah area on Tuesday.
The cause of the fire was stated to be short-circuiting.
Body found: Police found the body of a 30-year-odl man from a canal in the City Raiwind area on Tuesday.
Police suspected that some unidentified person/s might have kidnapped the victim, tortured and strangled him.
Later, the killer/s put the body in a bag and dumped it in the canal. some locals spotted the body and informed the police. Police have registered a case and shifted the body to city morgue.
Meanwhile, Lower Mall police found the body of a 28-year-old unidentified man. Police said he was an addict who apparently died of excessive use of drugs. The body was shifted to mortuary.
Youth killed on road: A 24-year-old youth was run over and killed by a speeding car in the Naulakha area on Tuesday.
Police said Basharat, son of Muhammad Suleman of Azad Kashmir, was stepping out of a bus when a speeding car coming from behind hit him, resulting in his instant death. He was in garments business. He was living with his cousin in the Naseerabad area.
