LISBON: The Portuguese Football Federation wants Cristiano Ronaldo to join the national squad despite Real Madrid’s protests that he is injured.
The federation said in a statement that players from Spanish clubs must travel to Portugal on Wednesday.
Though the statement didn’t specifically refer to Ronaldo, it appeared to be a response to pressure from Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby will stay on wih the French squad for their World Cup qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland in spite of his club’s fears over a calf strain.
France face the Republic in Dublin on November 14 and then host the return leg at the Stade de France in Paris four days later.
