 Punjab govt to ensure sugar at Rs40/kg

Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that his government will ensure the availability of sugar at Rs40/kg at all costs in accordance with the verdict of the Supreme Court.

He was talking to reporters after congratulating the federal water and power minister Raja Pervez Ashraf over his son wedding at his residence here on Monday. According to the court verdict, he said, 70 per cent sugar from mills would be provided to corporate sector, while the remaining 30 per cent would be provided to general users and expressed the hope that the commodity is available in enough quantity and its crises would be overcome soon.

He said he would talk to the district administration of Rawalpindi for ensuring provision of sugar in the city. According to him, provision of Rs300,000 compensation amount to the relatives of Shalimar Hotel suicide attack victims is the policy of his government and would be paid very soon.

Raja Pervez Ashraf on the occasion thanked Shahbaz Sharif for coming his house and said his coming to his house is a cause of great happiness for him. Referring to power outages in the country, he said presently no load shedding is being carried out anywhere in the country, adding, we are generating 6500MW power from water and 2500MW would be generated from 8 rental power plants to be installed by December. About the two weekly holidays, Ashraf said the government was pondering over the proposal and the federal cabinet would take final decision on it.
