JI concerned at poor law & order, growing US interference
2-day meet ends with no change in provincial set-up

Monday, November 09, 2009
Bureau report

PESHAWAR: Two-day meeting of provincial shura of Jamaat-e-Islami concluded here Sunday after taking some routine organisational decisions.

The provincial chief of the party, Senator Prof Ibrahim Khan, was to brief the media about the shura meeting, but he failed to do so due to the bomb explosion at Matani town on the southern suburbs of the provincial metropolis.

The major decision that the shura took during the two-day proceeding was naming provincial office-bearers of the party. However, no change was made in the existing provincial set-up of the party.

Shabbir Ahmad Khan would continue to serve as provincial secretary general of the JI, while the six vice-presidents include Maulana Mohammad Ismail, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Hakim Abdul Waheed, Mirajuddin Khan, Sahibzada Haroonur Rasheed and Maulana Asadullah.

Hafiz Hashmat Khan, Abdul Wasi and Zarnoor Afridi would continue to serve as deputy general secretaries of the party, who have been assigned different zones for organisational tasks. The meeting also adopted three different resolutions of which only one was released to media, while the other two would be released later. The detailed resolution circulated to media outlets had covered the entire political and security scenario of the country.

The shura through the resolution took strong notice of the prevailing law and order situation, militant activities and military operations in various areas, price-hike, joblessness, US intervention in the country’s affairs and drone attacks.

The resolution stated that the increased US intervention in the country and presence of notorious American security firm Blackwater in various cities of the country had caused serious concern among the people.

It said that the reported offices of US officials in Shabqadar locality of Peshawar and Tarbela were a matter of serious concern for the country. The resolution stated that the military operations in the tribal areas were aimed at providing pretext to the enemies of the country, particularly the US to take direct action against the peaceful tribesmen.

The drones, the resolution said, were targetting innocent people including women and children while the series of bomb explosions in major cities of the country had made life a hell for the people.

It was due to the flawed policies of the government that even women, children and educational institutions were becoming the target of terrorist attacks. The meeting resolved that the JI would make every effort to save the integrity, solidarity and sovereignty of the country against the conspiracies of the US, Israel and Indian nexus.

The two other resolutions pertained to the recent announcement of the prime minister about net hydel power profit and construction of Lowari Tunnel, the mega project of road link to Chitral.
