Establishment failed to eliminate PPP: Fauzia

SIALKOT: Pakistan People’s Party Secretary Information Fauzia Wahab has said the government was sincerely utilising its limited resources for the betterment of the poor. She was addressing a press conference at the residence of PPP Federal Council member Yousaf Khilji here on Saturday. She said the establishment had tried hard to eliminate the PPP in the past but it failed as the party had strong roots among the people. She condemned criticism against President Asif Ali Zardari from some corners.



Three militants die in Bajaur

KHAR: Three militants were killed and another was arrested in an injured condition when security forces pounded positions of militants with artillery in Mamond Tehsil, Bajaur Agency, on Saturday, official sources said. Also, eight militants, including a commander and his son, surrendered to security forces in Khar and Mamond subdivisions. Official sources said that security forces targetted suspected hideouts of militants in different areas of the Mamond Tehsil with artillery guns. As a result, three militants were killed while another sustained injuries.



One killed, three injured in Kurram

SADDA: Security forces claimed to have killed a militant and injured three others in Chapri area of Kurram Lower Friday. “One militant was killed and three others injured when security forces opened fire on a vehicle,” tribal and official sources said. Meanwhile, forces arrested two suspected persons in a search operation carried out in Ahmadi Shama and Sadda town. The identity of the suspecta could not be ascertained.



Landmine claims two lives in Mohmand

GHALLANAI: Two civilians were killed when a vehicle hit a roadside landmine in Mohmand Lower Agency on Saturday. Tribal sources said the pickup van ran over the landmine in Kasai Anbar area, triggering an explosion. As a result, the driver Aziz Khan and Shad Ali, cleaner, were killed on the spot. The mine was apparently planted to target security forces. Meanwhile, two suspected persons were arrested at a checkpoint in Yakkaghund area. They were identified as Muhammad Saeed and Alat Khan.



Qazi asks NRO beneficiaries to leave country

OKARA: Former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has asked beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance to get themselves cleared of the charges or leave the country. He was addressing a press conference at the residence of JI district Ameer.

KHAIRPUR: Unidentified armed men shot dead a labourer here on Saturday, police sources said. They said Manzoor Ahmed was going home when the armed men opened fire at him at the Hussaini Chowk, killing him on the spot. The attackers fled the spot. The reason for the killing is yet to be ascertained. Police have registered a case and started investigation.







First Pak-made JF-17 this month: CAS

BEIJING: The first JF-17 Thunder fighter plane produced at Kamra will be rolled out by the end of this month. This was stated by Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Pakistan Air Force, in an interview on Saturday. “This will start a new era in the Pak-China relationship, and the aviation industry”, said the CAS while talking to APP. The CAS is currently here to attend the 60th anniversary of the founding of the PLAAF. “Both China as well as the PAF are attaching lot of importance to this project”, CAS Rao Qamar said. The JF-17 fighter aircraft will help replace the existing fleet of the PAF comprising F-7, A-5 and all Mirage planes, he said.
