ISLAMABAD: Estranged PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan, who had been offered some key posts on Thursday, continues to remain suspended as member of the party’s central executive committee (CEC).
He met President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday last and was reportedly offered the slot of attorney general or post of the Punjab governor. Aitzaz has so far given no hint whether or not he was willing to accept the offer.
However, there was no word whether or not President Zardari, who is also the PPP’s Co-chairman, and PM Gilani who is the Vice-President of the party, discussed with him restoration of his membership in the CEC.
A senior PPP leader from Sindh hinted at the possibility that Aitzaz’s suspension as CEC member would end very soon. He believed the veteran PPP leader was to regain his party position shortly with an official responsibility as well.
Aitzaz was suspended on the recommendation of CEC by the PPP Secretary Senator Jehangir Badr in February this year.
