SUPREME Court Bar Association Former President Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan has said a country can only progress if no one is above the law and accountability in it.
He was addressing the media at the launching ceremony of “The Colors of Indus” a book by Peer Mukarram-ul-Haq, the grandson of PPP leader Peer Elahi Bux. Chaudhry Aitzaz said Europe and countries like Dubai progressed because they were tolerant and had learned to accept multi-ethnic and multicultural co-existence without violating each others rights. He said the law was same for everyone in such countries.
He said that NRO was not a political crisis it was a judicial matter and would reach its logical and lawful conclusion. He said the President was not threatened by the rejection of the NRO as the constitution protected him. He said the condition that no one could become prime minister of the country more than twice did not make any logical sense and should be removed.
Replying to a question regarding the agenda of his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, he said that it was a private meeting if it had been something that they wanted to share with the media it would have been a press conference. He said the media should not extrapolate and issue untruthful statement about him being the next governor or attorney journal.
Chaudhry Aitzaz said downfall in a society happened when people wanted to impose their own will on others. He said that such actions turn into militancy movements. He commended the work of Peer Mukarram-ul-Haq and said that his delineation of history through his columns and essays was a part of the most well written history. Scholar Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi, Filmstar Mustafa Qureshi and Javed Iqbal were also present and expressed their views on the book.
