Senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Nafees Siddiqi, has announced that despite the differences he has with the party leadership, he is still a party worker.
He announced this in a press conference at his residence along with ex-PPP MNA Qazi Asad Abid and said that he was disappointed with the party leadership and has revived his think tank group Centre for Development and Democracy (CDD).
Siddiqi who resigned a few months back from the office of Secretary General PPP Sindh accused the party leadership of not paying due respect to him and other party workers. He said that neither the party accepted his resignation nor he was asked to work for the party.
Clarifying the position, he said that his meeting with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain held in London recently had created a misunderstanding but he was still a PPP worker.
The PPP leader said that he would continue his political activities from the CDD platform formed on the directive of the late Benazir Bhutto when she was in exile. He said that this think tank organised dialogues and seminars and invited experts from all fields to share their opinions for the development of democracy in the country.
He said that experts from every field were members in the CDD and the group would again hold seminars and dialogues. Expressing concern over the political and economic condition of the country he said that the country was facing the worst economic crisis due to the wrong policies of the rulers and due to the war against terrorism.
Siddiqi said that the meeting of the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with all sections of the society in Pakistan was a serious issue and India availed this opportunity to put more pressure on Pakistan.
He said that all federating units were not satisfied and the government and opposition both failed to deliver the goods.
