LAHORE

PUNJAB Assembly Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has urged the high officials of the Schools Education Department to include the representatives of private schools’ organisations in the committee constituted by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for the preparation of security plan for private schools.

He said a comprehensive report should be submitted to the authority concerned at the earliest with the consultation of the representatives of private schools bodies so that security arrangements for the private schools could be made more effective.

According to a press statement, the PA Deputy Speaker told this to a delegation of the All Pakistan Private Schools Welfare Association (APPSWA), headed by its President Syed Zulqarnain Shah.

Briefing the deputy Speaker, Syed Zulqarnain said that police were forcibly closing private educational institutions.

He said police tried to forcibly trespass into the schools premises in the Cantt and Green Town areas and also misbehaved with the female staff.

“The private schools management is in a state of fear in this situation and the Punjab government should try to improve the security through EDOs (Education) concerned and Education Secretary and they (schools management) should not be harassed by the uneducated police “Hawaldars”, he added.

He said most of the private schools were operating in rented buildings and the owners were unable to immediately raise the boundary walls up to 8 feet because of financial constraints.

The Punjab government should bail out the private schools management by releasing special funds for raising the boundary walls as promotion of education and protection of citizens was a collective responsibility of the government and society, said Syed Zulqarnain.

He also demanded the government issue arms licenses to private educational institutions.

Later, the Deputy Speaker lauded the role of private sector in promoting education and assured that he would cooperation on behalf of the government for improving security of schools.
