Hyderabad moot underlines need to eliminate terrorism
Friday, November 06, 2009
By our correspondent

HYDERABAD: Scholars from Pakistan, China and Britain, senior diplomats and former ambassadors have underlined the need for eliminating terrorism, maintaining law and order, ensuring security of life and property across the country.

The recommendations were made at the end of a one-day international seminar organised by the Area Study Centre, Far East and South East Asia, University of Sindh, on Wednesday which were read out by former ambassador Dr Ross Masood Hussain in its concluding session. The session was presided over by Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui while Gen (retd) Jamshed Ayaz Khan was the chief guest.

The scholars suggested conserving available resources, which include water, gas, energy and other natural resources through scientific management and equitable distribution as a corollary and explore and develop new renewable resources.

The scholars further recommended eliminating rampant corruption, nepotism and favouritism through fair and impartial enforcement of a strict system of accountability. They recommended to combat economic servitude and political servility through reduction of dependence on foreign aid, grants and loans, increasing internal resources by widening the tax net and economic programmes for generating increased export earnings.

They said we need domestic consolidation through democracy-based constitutional supremacy, institutional integrity and independent judiciary, rule of law, accountability and good governance and no compromise on principles and national interests.
