Wednesday, November 04, 2009
By Our Correspondent

LAHORE

JAMAAT-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawwar Hassan has said many corrupt people could not be exposed after the decision of not tabling the NRO in the parliament and now all eyes are on the judiciary to expose them.

He stated this while talking to the media during his visit to the residence of cricket legend Wasim Akram to condole his wife’s death. The JI ameer said the black law of NRO should be dealt on such strict terms that no one should ever try to be above the law. He said “Waziristan operation is only benefiting India and America and harming our own brethrens.” He appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif not to allow any such operation in the south Punjab. He assured the chief minister that the JI would muster support to prevent any bloodshed in south Punjab.

During the visit, Syed Munawwar Hassan offered his condolence over the death of Wasim Akram’s wife and prayed for the departed soul.

Azad Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan be include in NFC Award: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch has demanded that Azad Kashmir, Gilgit and Baltistan should also be included in the NFC Award.

Talking to a delegation from Gilgit at Mansoora on Tuesday, he termed the system introduced in Gilgit and Baltistan inadequate and a joke with the people of the area. He said President Asif Ali Zardari gave this system as co-chairman of the PPP and not as president of Pakistan without any constitutional cover and there were doubts about its implementation. Baloch said the governor had been made centre of authority in this system which should actually have been vested with the local government and the elected representatives.

He said Azad Kashmir-like governance system for Gilgit, Balatistan could have saved Pakistan from any future complications at the international level.

Baloch said the people of Gilgit and Baltistan had their right over the hydel projects and the natural resources of the area and they should be given their due share in the NFC Award. He said the people affected by the Dyamar Bhasha dam project should be compensated.

The delegation was led by Gilgit-Baltistan JI Chief Mushtaq Ahmed advocate. Azad Kashmir JI Chief Abdur Rashid Turabi was also present.
