 ICAP to review syllabus
Wednesday, November 04, 2009
By our correspondent

KARACHI: Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan President Abdul Rahim Suriya said priority has been given to reviewing the syllabus in line with international education standards of IFAC.

Speaking at ICAP’s 48th Annual General Meeting in Islamabad recently, he informed the members about the memorandum of understanding signed by ICAP with the Federal Board of Revenue for tax audit.

He said the tax audit would provide an opportunity to audit professionals as well as it is a challenge for the profession. “We have good examples of success stories of tax audit in India and Turkey,” he remarked.

He said the ICAP council is reviewing the whole education system including the international education standards of IFAC, developing study packs for the students and introducing a permanent credit system which is expected to be applicable to examinations after December 2009.

He added that for continuing professional development of members, the institute is considering introducing most modern techniques such as video conferencing in collaboration with virtual universities.

He said for professional accountants in business, a CFO Forum is being planned. He stressed that the institute will continue close liaison with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, State Bank of Pakistan and FBR as well as maintaining close contacts with IFAC and other international bodies to maintain high professional standards. He said because of higher education standards and quality training, Pakistan’s chartered accountants are in demand all over the world and are treated at par with qualified accountants of developed countries. He said about 1,200 chartered accountants are working in the Middle East, Europe and US.
