| Malaysia to import rice, beef and livestock |

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has shown interest to import rice and cows from Pakistan. This understanding was reached between Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Malaysian Minister for Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Dato Haji Noh Bin Omar in a meeting held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on Tuesday.
Qureshi said that Pakistan has surplus crop of high quality basmati rice which are known world over for their taste, flavour and long length of grain. He said Pakistan can be dependable, consistent and uninterrupted resource of supply of rice to Malaysia.
Qureshi also offered a steady supply of frozen beef and mutton. He said Pakistan being a meat eating Muslim country has a class of mechanism set in place for processing and packaging of Halal meat. He said Malaysia can benefit by importing beef and mutton to overcome its shortage. He also offered Pakistani Mangoes that are known for their taste and flavour and oranges which are easy to peel, rich in juice and have great nutrition value. He said that Malaysia can also collaborate with Pakistan in milk and milk-based products.
