LAHORE: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Punjab) Chairman Gohar Ejaz has called a meeting of textile industrialists on November 9 to consider the law and order situation in the province.
Committee on Law and Order Chairman Akber Sheikh stated this on Tuesday condemning recent events in the province including acts of terrorism as well as general disturbance of law and order on the pretext of religion or labour activism.
He said industrial units run by APTMA members are classified as large-scale manufacturing units, each of which employs about a thousand workers and sometimes several thousand workers.
Furthermore, these units exist in the form of clusters located around the main transport arteries. These facts give rise to special problems which need special solutions, he added.
Ejaz said solutions have to be based on integration of industry security apparatus with the police, improving communications between the industry and the police, and development of rapid response capability through cluster-police joint action.
“Had such a coordinated response mechanism existed, events like the murder of APTMA member, Sheikh Najeeb Zafar, could have been avoided.”
He added APTMA has suggested the formation of a joint industryńpolice committee for development and coordination of response and maintenance of law and order system. He stressed the need for taking preventive measures instead of reacting to incidents.
According to him, deployment of APTMA member resources in an organised manner will help law enforcement agencies.
He said joint efforts by the administration and industry will lead to an improvement in the social wellbeing of the area where the industry is located.
