Ambassador of Tunisia and Mrs Mourad Bourehla hosted a dinner for Pakistani friends such as PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed and his wife Prof Dr Dushka; Senator Nisar Memon and spouse Fauzia; CEO Aga Khan Foundation and Mrs Al Nashir Jamal, and a few others.
Dinner was a formal, sit down affair with a well set table and delicious Tunisian specialties, which Mushahid Hussain termed as ‘real health food’ and to which other guests agreed wholeheartedly, with an amusing comment by Nashir on the ‘three chicks dessert’ sending everyone into peals of laughter.
Addressing his guests the host welcomed them and said it was a pleasure to have such well known personalities at his home. Expressing the view that it is time for the long and lasting ties between Pakistan and Tunisia to be invigorated on a larger scale, he stressed on the many opportunities that exist for increased co-operation, which he hoped would come in the near future.
Wishing Mushahid Hussain a successful trip to his country, he said interaction and dialogue between political figures of all parties in Pakistan and Tunisian political entities would ensure a greater understanding than what already exists between the two peoples. He concluded by announcing that soon the embassy would organise a few events to showcase the culture of its country.
There was a bit of a friendly tussle between Mushahid Hussain and Nisar Memon as to who should respond to the hosts speech on behalf of the guests, with each telling the other to go ahead and the SG winning the toss, so to say, by declaring the senator was older and should do the honours! He began by thanking the hosts for the delicious meal and pleasant company, then added that it had been 60 years since Pakistan had come into being but there were still many goals it had to achieve to make it the country visualized by its founding fathers. To this end ties with like minded and friendly nations was a great asset and he hoped that Pakistan would get through the present crisis with their support and co-operation.
Throughout the evening the conversation was interesting and kept the guests from looking and feeling uninterested as they sometimes do when get-togethers are held on a larger scale and many guests do not know each other — light and lively or intellectually stimulating as guests went from one subject to another, covering a wide range of topics and concerns. Whether it was politics or personal experiences, fashion or culture, all the guests contributed to the discussion that took place at this very congenial gathering, making it an evening to be counted as a memorable occasion.
