KARAK: The reduction in sugar quota by the provincial government has created a severe shortage of the commodity in the district.
The magistrate and tehsildar of District Karak, Arif khattak said on Saturday the sugar quota of Karak District was 72 tons per day but it was decreased by the provincial government due to a shortage of the commodity in the province.
“Now up to 38 tons of sugar is being supplied to the district,” Arif Khattak said.
He said sugar was being supplied to the district from three mills in Dera Ismail Khan. “Two of the mills need bank draft of MCB Bank and there is no branch of the bank in Karak District so the sugar dealers have to go to district Bannu,” he added.
The official said they have brought the issue to the notice of MPA Malik Qasim Khan Khattak.
Arif Khattak informed that on Saturday only 350 50kg bags of sugar were supplied to the district after four days, which would be equally distributed in the 21 union councils.
