LAHORE

MAULANA Jaffar Qasmi, was a man of letters, an intellectual and a scholar in Islamic teachings. He had a vast knowledge of Western society and branches of knowledge. Maulana was born in Chiniot on December 6, 1927 and acquired his basic education in his native city. After obtaining a Masters in English from Government College Lahore and Arabic from Oriental College, Maulana went to Lincoln’s Inn to study law. Maulana worked for the BBC as a producer. It was there that Maulana joined the Shazilia discipline of Sufism. He visited Islamic countries extensively and after spending 17 years abroad returned to Pakistan.

Maulana Jaffar had a great command over many languages and literature including Arabic, Urdu, English and Persian. Maulana worked for the Auqaf Department on his return to Pakistan and delivered lectures on various topics at the Civil Services Academy and NIPA. He died on October 12, 1991.

His illustrious son, Muddassar Hasan Qasmi, an artist and a producer, has complied the writings and articles of his learned father and printed them in the form of a book titled “Mehshar-e-Khayal”. The book contains 12 articles written by Maulana and speaks volumes for the knowledge, his grasp on languages, literature and on religion.

The book is a unique collection of articles on various personalities and issues which opens new vistas of intellectual debate and presents a new dimension to many pressing issues. The book is written in a literary style. It also presents an impressive sketch of the writer as a man of great talent and knowledge who had a great inclination towards the Sufi school of thought.
