 Ali Hai takes lead in Governor’s Cup Golf

KARACHI: The 36-hole 3rd Sindh Governor’s cup teed off at the Karachi Golf Club on Saturday with over 200 golfers in the fray.

The seniors and juniors in two categories along with the veterans event was played and concluded on Saturday.

In the amateurs’ category, KGC’s Mohammed Ali Hai played a two-over par 74 to take the lead over Lahore Golf Club’s Aleem ur-Rehman who shot a 75 and had specially flown over from Lahore for the tournament. Closely behind were Ali’s younger brother Zia Hai and Waqas Rana at 76 with Sajid Khan of the Arabian Sea Country Club playing a 77.

The seniors’ category was won by Haroon Kahlon with a gross score of 78. The runner-up was Nayar Hasnain Haider with a score of 82. The net winner was group captain Aftab A. Khan with a score of 69 net and the runner-up was Mansoor Sultan with 72.

The veterans match, played over nine holes, was won by M A Ansari with a gross score of 39. The runner-up was Farooq Gharib with 41.

Sajid Ali Khan was the net winner with a net score of 33, closely followed by Shafiq-uz-Zaman on 34.

The juniors’ title was won by ASCC’s Saad Huda with DHA Golf Club’s Kamil Hafiz finishing as runner-up with a score of 89. The net winner was Rashid Ali at 71 and the runner-up was Fahad Najam with 73.

The junior masters, played over nine holes, was won by Ahmed Javed (DHA) with a score of 41 while Afan Shahzad finished as runner-up at 33. The net winner was Danish Rehman (43) while the runner-up was Abdullah Adil (46).
