LHC admits Dr Qadeer’s petition for hearing

Rawalpindi: Justice Asad Munir of the Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi Bench, on Thursday admitted a petition of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan for regular hearing from November 11. Dr Qadeer Khan had filed an application before the court for early hearing of his case as it involves the question regarding his freedom of movement. In another case, the LHC bench directed the GHQ judge advocate general (JAG) and the Ministry of Defence to submit their replies in the case of Nadeem Shah, a lawyer, missing since April 13, 2009. He is in the custody of the Army and being interrogated, along with a serving lieutenant colonel, under the Secret Act.
Mother, three daughters die of poverty
HAFIZABAD: Three minor girls died after their mother administered poisonous pills to them in Jalalpur Bhattian on Thursday morning. According to police, Zahida Bibi, stricken by poverty, swallowed poisonous tablets and also administered the same to her daughters, Sumbal (7), Tasneem (8) and Tania (5) on Wednesday. They were taken to the DHQ Hospital where Zahida died on Wednesday night, while all the three girls died in the hospital on Thursday morning.
Balochistan to ensure sale of sugar at Rs40/kg
QUETTA: The Balochistan government has finalised arrangements for the provision of 5,000 metric tons of sugar to markets while 300 metric tons have already been supplied to shopkeepers. According to a handout issued here on Thursday, arrangements have been made to ensure the sale of the commodity at Rs 40 per kg in the provincial capital and other cities of the province. It said that trucks loaded with sugar were reaching Quetta on daily basis.
Northern Areas renamed
ASTORE: A notification has been issued from the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs regarding change of name of Northern Areas to Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the notification, now, in all the government documents, the name of Gilgit-Baltistan will be used instead of Northern Areas. Many political and social parties and personalities are excited over the issuance of the notification because they think that now the area will witness a new era of development.
Babar reviews security at Parliament House
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan on Thursday said the security of Parliament House was of paramount importance. He was presiding over a meeting to review security for the joint session of parliament to be held on October 26 at the Parliament House. The minister directed the Islamabad police, CDA and National Assembly security staff to ensure better coordination for appropriate security arrangements.
