 Militant killed, two hurt in Bajaur

KHAR: One militant was killed and two others injured in a clash with security forces in Loi Sam area while 17 insurgents were arrested from different areas of Bajaur Agency on Thursday.

Also, two soldiers were wounded in firing and bomb blast and two militants surrendered to security forces in the troubled Mamond tehsil in Bajaur. Official sources said that a group of militants attacked a checkpost in Loi Sam area of Khar subdivision, which was repulsed by the security forces.

They said that the ensuing gunfire between the security forces and militants was continued for half an hour that left a militant dead. Two other militants and a soldier were also injured in the clash.

In another incident, a soldier sustained injuries when a roadside bomb planted by militants exploded in Bar Khalozo area in Loi Mamond. The security forces were patrolling the area when the blast occurred.

The sources said that security forces later also defused two remote-controlled bombs that had been placed on roadside in Bar Khalozo. Helicopter gunships also shelled the suspected hideouts of militants in different areas of Salarzai subdivision but there was no report on loss of life or damage to property. Militants also destroyed a medicine store with explosive in Nawagai bazaar in the early morning.
