 Scores of suspects held across Frontier
81 arrested in DI Khan; dozens apprehended from Dir Lower, Bajaur, Kohat, Nowshera and Charsadda

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Police arrested 81 suspects during a search operation in Muslim Bazaar on Thursday.

Police said all the arrested persons hailed from South Waziristan. In another incident, an internally displaced person of South Waziristan died and three others were injured in a road accident on Dera-Tank Road.

Haroonur Rasheed Mahsud was on his way to a registration point in a tri-wheeler when the vehicle collided with a truck. As a result, he died on the spot while three others sustained injuries.

Peshawar Bureau adds: Continuing search and clearance operations in Bajaur Agency and Dir Lower district, the Frontier Corps (FC) arrested 22 suspected militants Thursday, an FC press release said.

The security forces are engaged in military action in Bajaur after the expiry of a deadline given to the militants to surrender. The FC statement claimed that the troops conducted search in the agency and arrested 17 suspected militants from various areas.

The security forces also arrested five suspected militants, including a foreigner, from different parts of Dir Lower. The security forces were sent to Dir Lower on April 26 to launch an operation against militants in Maidan and Adinzai areas. Maidan is the native area of Maulana Sufi Muhammad, the founding leader of the banned Tanzim Nifaz Shariat-e-Muhammadi.

Our Nowshera correspondent adds: The Crimes Investigation Department (CID) and police on Thursday arrested 15 Afghan nationals including four militants and four prayer leaders during a crackdown against foreigners.

Police sources said that CID and local police personnel in a joint action apprehended four Taliban fighters, four prayer leaders and seven other Afghan refugees in different areas under 14-Foreign Act.

They said that Chief Capital Police Officer had strictly directed the force to launch a crackdown against foreigners staying illegally in the district.

Eight militants and prayer leaders arrested during the drive included four in the jurisdiction of Risalpur police station, two in Akberpura and two in the limits of Pabbi police station.

Our Kohat correspondent adds: The security forces on Thursday arrested six suspected militants and defused three mortar shells in the cantonment area.

Sources said the six suspected militants were in the Kohat city and Jarma area. However, the officials did not disclose the identity of the militants.

Our Charsadda correspondent adds: Six suspected militants including three commanders were arrested during an operation in Kandary area in Shabqadar Thursday.

Sources said the police along with the security forces raided various areas in the district and arrested six militants including three commanders Umar Wahid, Muhammad Ameen and Murad Ali. The other three militants were identified as Ayaz, Riaz and Muhammad Wazir. They were shifted to an undisclosed location for investigation.

Our Daggar correspondent adds: The security forces arrested 10 militants including four commanders in separate raids in Buner district on Thursday.

Sources said four militants hailing from Gokand Darra were held in the Pir Baba bazaar. However, due to security reasons the officials did not disclose their names.

In the second incident, the security forces arrested six militants in the Dewana Baba area. They were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Meanwhile, the shopkeepers demanded of the authorities protection to their shops in Dewana Baba as four shops owned by Saifullah, Abid, Tajmul Khan and Mozamin Shah were looted during curfew hours by unknown persons.

One of the shopkeepers, Mozamin Shah said that the dacoits decamped with Rs250,000 from his shop during the night.

Our Takhtbhai correspondent adds: The police claimed to have arrested a commander of the Swat militants along with his father, brother and an accomplice from the Mazdoorabad area here Thursday.

A police party raided Mazdoorabad area and arrested Israr, stated to be a commander of the militants, along with his father Hussain Ahmad and brother Ibrar. The identity of the fourth suspect could not be ascertained.

According to police sources, Israr was allegedly involved in beheading several police and other security agencies officials.
