KHAIRPUR: Fear gripped the dwellers of the city and Larkana after rumours that suicide bombers had entered both the cities and could strike some public place any time on Wednesday.
The most affected places were the educational institutions, which had been bracing for some untoward situation following the attack on the International Islamic University in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Staff at the district education office got panicky following a message received on a cell phone, informing the owner that they may be a possible target of the intending suicide bombers. As a result, the staff spent their whole office time in the open and in a state of fear.
Law-enforcement agencies have beefed up security in and around both the cities and issued directives to sensitive offices to maintain a constant watch on suspects. The police also carried out snap vehicle checking.
Meanwhile, four prisoners were injured in a clash in Sukkur Central Jail after a brawl between two groups of under trial prisoners. However, the jail authorities, with the help of the district police, controlled the situation.
