 Whites crush Customs

KARACHI: Karachi Whites overwhelmed Customs by 253 runs while Peshawar Region overpowered Quetta by ten wickets in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2009-10 on Sunday.In other encounter Rawalpindi crushed Hyderabad Region by an innings and 190 runs.

Here at the DHA Stadium, Ali Mudassir took six wickets to enable Karachi Whites bowl Customs out for a paltry 88 in their second innings to secure a convincing 253 runs triumph. Customs, who were chasing 342 to win, failed to resist and only three of their batsmen including Hafiz Asad Baig (30), Tahir Mughal (24) and Rawat Khan (10) entered into double figures. Tabish Khan also fully supported Ali Mudassir and grabbed three wickets, finishing with eight in the match while Mudassir finished with nine in the show.

Earlier, Karachi Whites were dismissed for 213 in their second innings. Tahir Mughal clinched four wickets. Karachi Whites had scored 234 in their first innings while Customs had in reply made 106.

Meanwhile, at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad, Peshawar Region earned full nine points to beat Quetta by ten wickets. Peshawar, who had got six runs first innings lead, bundled Quetta out for just 62 in their second innings. Pacer Imran Khan claimed six wickets, finishing with nine in the match while Nasir Ahmad captured three.

Peshawar achieved 57 runs target without losing any wicket. Quetta had scored 207 in their first innings while in reply Peshawar had posted 213.At the Diamond Cricket Club Ground in Islamabad, Rawalpindi claimed full nine points by beating Hyderabad by an innings and 190 runs.

Here at the UBL Ground No 1, PIA gave Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) a massive 455 runs target. After claiming 167 runs first innings lead after they got SSGC out for 153, PIA declared their second innings on 277 for five. Khurram Manzoor hit fine 117 with 17 fours while Kamran Sajid blasted 71 with eight fours. For SSGC, Sohail Khan took two for 65.

While chasing 455, SSGC were 59 for two with Wajid Ali batting on 21 while Saeed Bin Nasir on 30.KRL were on the brink of a certain defeat against Habib Bank as while chasing a target of 477, they had ended the third day’s play on 167 for four with Saeed Anwar Junior batting on 63 while Zulfiqar Jan on 15. Bazid Khan scored patient 39. Earlier, HBL, after getting 92 runs first innings lead, were bowled out for 384 in their second innings with Taufique Umar scoring unbeaten 154. Hasan Raza scored 97.

At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Karachi Blues claimed 97 runs lead after they dismissed Abbottabad for 238 in their first innings. Tanveer Ahmad took five while Muhammad Sami claimed four wickets. At stumps, Karachi Blues were 154 for three with Asim Kamal batting on 52 and Asim Shafique on 54.
