| Liaquat Ali Khan exhibition opens at National Museum |

An exhibition of rare photographs of the Quaid-i-Millat Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan opened at the National Museum in Karachi on Thursday. The exhibition is in commemoration of the 58th death anniversary of the first prime minister of Pakistan.
The exhibition is being jointly organised by Quaid-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial Committee and the administration of the National Museum.
Quaid-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial Committee President Major General (retd) Muhammad Bashir Khan, who was commissioned to the Army in 1942. He recalled that Liaquat Ali Khan was a very punctual and honest man. He said that the crest of the Army’s Armoured Core utilises the symbolic fist that Liaquat Ali Khan raised.
Mehfooz-un-Nabi Khan, the general secretary of the committee, said that currently 33 pictures were up for display in the exhibit, however these will be increased to 70 as the exhibit will last till the 31st of October.
The most iconic of the photographs on display is perhaps the one where Liaquat Ali Khan is addressing the Constituent Assembly. However, there were also many rare photographs, including photos of Liaquat Ali Khan having a discussion with the Grand Mufti of Palestine, receiving a play record of the national anthem of Pakistan from Z. A. Bukhari, and arriving to install the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir with Sardar Mohammad Ibrahim by his side.
Other interesting snaps of the first Prime Minister include a photograph with General Ayub Khan and General Azam at the Lahore Garrison, arriving at Tehran Airport, a group photo at the Aligarh Muslim University. Another photograph of Liaquat Ali Khan presented the premier inspecting a naval installation The premier has his cape, his bowling hat, round spectacles and cigarette gripped tightly between his lips.
Eight personal items of the Liaquat Ali Khan have also been put up for display. These include his lighter, his cuff links, a small Qura’an, his stick, his pen, his watch and his original draft of the budget speech of undivided India that Liaquat Ali Khan delivered on 28th February, 1947, the last budget of undivided India.
During the term of Liaquat Ali Khan, three budgets were presented and despite a post-war global recession, and migration on the hands of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan managed to present three surplus budgets. Four public sector universities were also inaugurated.
